Solid Steel Radio Show

Coldcut, Pepe Deluxe

Solid Steel in association with Serato (27th January) Coldcut step back into the hot seat this week, straight in with heavy beats with an Eastern twist from Beats Antique, before stepping up the pace with DJ Rashad and Ital Tek on a mutant footwork tip. We delve deeper with music from U Roy, Muddy Waters and Rocky & The Riddlers and their classic West Coast garage sound. Afro beat comes courtesy of Future Warriors and more from the electronic end with Om Unit, Objekt and Dark Sky, wrapping up a tidy first hour.

In hour 2 it's the return of Pepe Deluxe with a mix celebrating the release of his highly anticipated 'Queen of the wave' album, out on the 30th January. It's a concept album, with the usual Pepe elements of late 60's vinyl influenced sound, plus weird instruments and equipment, including The Great Stalacpipe Organ (the largest instrument in the world). You can find out more at pepedeluxe.com
His mix is full of inspirations ranging from the Brit heavy rock of Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden, to pseudo-classical music, some 60's pop and a little garage rock, plus we get a taste of the new album and an exclusive spin of a Husky Rescue remix for Pepe Deluxe.

Cymatic Frequencies II by DK - Part 1

DK returns with 'Cymatic Frequencies II' and as before it's another AV mix. This is Part 1 of 'Best of 2011', taking personal favourites from his mixes this year and adding suitable and sometimes breathtaking visuals to compliment the audio. This Video Mixtape includes a few of the artists Original video's but in most cases visuals have been sourced from animation, CGI, Short Films, archive footage and edited to each track in the mix. Some of the 2011 musical highlights include Africa Hitech, Machinedrum, Peverelist, Skream, Pearson Sound, Thundercat, Michael Kiwanuka and the Stepkids, plus there's a few dips into the archive with Wayne Smith, Tribe of Issachar, Herbie Hancock, Burial and Vangelis.

Cymatic Frequencies II by DK - Part 2

We continue with the second part of Cymatic Frequencies II by DK, the Video Mixtape reviewing some of his favourite mixes from 2011 with added visuals. Using more Original Videos from the artist this time and the quality of the music is equally as good as Part 1. It's a sombre start with Gil Scott-Heron RIP, followed by James Blake and hip hop from Paul White, Danny Brown and Shabazz Palaces. Ninja Tune feature with Mr Scruff, Toddla T, Raffertie and Fink, with Big Dada represented by Wiley & Offshore. There's 2 from Martyn on Brainfeeder, Zed Bias features 3 times and it's big club tracks from Joe Goddard, Julio Bashmore and Fourtet. Plus there's a few classics from Liquid Liquid, Radiohead and Har You Percussion group to close a visual feast.
